n recent years, across the globe, there is a campaign for “Health for all now!” as against “Health for all by 2000 A.D.” the Alma Ata declaration of 1978. The reason for this new campaign is that the declaration remains unfulfilled even after 26 years, as the world comes to terms with the new economic forces of globalization, liberalization and privatization. The scenario is not at all different in H.D. Kote taluk. Hence the idea of starting a health centre in this locality.
H.D. Kote (Heggada Devana Kote) Taluk with 180 villages is situated along the Mysore – Mananthavady road, about 56 kilometres away from the city of Mysore in Karnataka State. It’s head quarters – H.D. Kote is a small town. The tribals and schedule caste people out number the upper caste and upper class people. Economically and socially this taluk remains on the lower rung. Illiteracy, ill health, superstitions practices, unemployment, bribery, fraud and poverty are the problems of the place.
